"Qiankai-Shanghai" Direct Shipping Route Boosts Trade by Over 40% in First Month
As a key project under the China-Peru Belt and Road Initiative, the "Qiankai-Shanghai" direct route has facilitated significant trade growth since its launch. By the end of February 2024, Shanghai Customs had overseen 22,000 tons of import and export goods with a total value of 610 million yuan via this route. Currently, the route operates two regular weekly services connecting Qiankai Port and Shanghai Port, with extended coverage to major Chinese ports including Ningbo, Qingdao, Dalian, and Xiamen.
The new route has reduced shipping time from Peru to China from over one month to approximately 23 days, slashing logistics costs by more than 20%. To ensure smooth and secure cargo movement, Shanghai Customs has implemented a dedicated, end-to-end regulatory service model.
In 2024, Shanghai Port’s total trade with Peru surged to 51.5 billion yuan, up 23% year-on-year. Exports to Peru totaled 25.1 billion yuan (a 22.2% increase), while imports from Peru reached 26.4 billion yuan (a 23.6% rise), according to Shanghai Customs data.
